Dr. Rimm will sensitize the audience to the emotional toll of the epidemic of overweight children. She has written the first book that takes an in-depth look at the lives of these children.
Dr. Rimm will explain how overweight kids may struggle in school, have lowered expectations for their future, have troubling relationships with peers and adults, exhibit more high-risk behavior, and are often even more misunderstood by their own families.
Drawing on a national survey and focus groups with middle school children, personal interviews, and case studies, Dr. Rimm will outline the ways that parents and professionals can rescue overweight children’s emotional lives and demolish the wall that often isolates them from their peers.
She will also discuss approaches that young people can use to find the support and confidence they need to lead healthy, fulfilling, and successful lives |
